Although the chapters have been working well for Anet, there hasn't been that much expansion for high level characters. That's what going to be amazing about GW:EN. There won't be any wasted time plowing your way through the easy lower-level areas, because upon entering GW:EN, your character is expected to be level 20. I think (well... at least hope) that it's going to be the most challenging and amazing Guild Wars yet. We'll see.

I personally don't feel cheated. We pretty much reached the end of one big story arch in Nightfall. The more chapters we got the more complicated the game got and the more balancing issues there where until now if you're a newbie it's just aggravating. They had no other choice. It was either continue making chapters and progressively destroy the game with each additional chapter or just call it quits on this experiment and go for version 2.0.

The only known differences between a "Chapter" and an "Expansion" is:
  • No new Professions
  • Must have other Guild Wars product to play

I could care less about the number of new skills or armor. I just want a decent storyline, with inventive quests, and tons of new areas to see and explore.

As long as GW:EN delivers that, I'll be happy, and it will be worth $40.

Is anyone else EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED that there will be no more "Chapters" and they chose to end GW1 with just an "Expansion?" After NightFall, I've been looking so extremely forward to the next two PROFESSIONS that would be introduced in Chapter 4. In fact, I'd go as far as saying two new Professions is what I looked the most forward to.

In my opinion, the least that the developers could do for us is develop GW:EN into a final CHAPTER instead of releasing it as a mere feeble, half-assed, cop-out, turd burglar, all-your-eggs-in-one-basket of an Expansion. I know I could be patient for a later release date if it meant a full game instead of an expansion.

Anyone feel cheated, or is it just me?

Post Script: Creating a full chapter could also offer a fourth map that could fill the gap in the north and players with all 4 Chapters could unlock a full map via /fullmap or something.
Basically you just want new proffessions, which are not needed and not wanted.

May I just say, having an expansion is 10x better than having a full new chapter. If they make a new chapter that means 20% at least has to be low level, low challenge content. With GWEN we get 100% storyline, 100% lvl 20 action!!

10 good skills each beats 300 of half good, a few good, and the rest garbage skills. Less crud to sift through.

If its quality over quantity, then 10 per profession is enough.:
Some people saw beta versions of these new skills at the ATS tests. The new skills they saw are nothing special. For necromancer, for example, almost all of them were reworked/slightly tweaked versions of existing skills (for example a new version of Death Nova to play with).

In other words, not only crap (depending on the final numbers attached to the skill), but the same crap that we already had.

This may change, but it is waaay to early to presume that the new skills will be all good when anet has a track record with which to judge by.

Just because it is an expansion doesn't mean it is going to have less content or be done in a sloppy way. I think GW:EN is going to be alot better then some think. The concept art looks awesome and we are getting a first look at some of the new playable races for GW2 not to mention 18 brand new dungeons. I think it is going to be really good.

I think a better question is once people finish up GW:EN what are they going to do until GW2 comes out ?

I like the idea of releasing expansion that add in new storyline, characters, weapons and armor without putting in another new character classes in it. I can't wait to try GW:EN.

I would argue that, rather, I was disappointed in the lack of new continent/culture and fresh character creation additions. I am over it now, but still maintain that one of my favourite parts of the GW campaigns was the revelation of a new culture/continent and how the events of the other continents are affecting this other society. I enjoyed the expanding GW universe and, at the time, was disappointed that the GW world was no longer expanding (in relation to continents/cultures). At the time of composing the Opening Post, I had included the concept of new professions as a part of this; while, indeed, I wouldn't have minded the incorporation of some more unique additions to play style (as I am a strong supporter that each profession offers many different and challenging options for play), I now have accepted that there will simply be no more professions.

This is more of an affect of beginning GW originally with the conception that I can look forward to these campaigns (which have personally been extremely successful!) continuing on... (I figured for at least for more than 2 additions). And that importance, I stress, was more on the environments and cultures (professions being a possible part of the new cultures).

As I have grown used to the news, it is now easy to accept that GW:EN is only an expansion and that its cultures and environs introduced are just not in the traditional sense that campaigns have gotten us used to.

Of course, now I hope that GW:EN will introduce at least new skins (hair/faces/etc) for each Campaign to expand upon our current skin options; as I would still absolutely love to create more characters in the future for the current campaigns (I feel that I have already exhausted all of the customization options that fit me -- that are currently available).

I am not egocentric in thinking that since this is something that I want so it should immediately be done but, rather, I imagine that --if I enjoy this aspect of the game so deeply-- there must be other players out there (many who don't speak up on message boards) who might feel the same... So I speak up for them.

Besides, what's an expansion without expanding on every aspect of the game? I feel that character creation should not be left out; because this is an aspect that veterans can enjoy as well as newcomers... without any of the factors that drew aNet toward choosing an expansion over a campaign.

It's better to finish the chapters while they're ahead, rather then slowly dieing out whilst trying to use res signet on it.

I suspect EotN to be better than the others because it has all lvl 20 content, has more missions than Factions, and is cheaper than the other games.

I don't think GW:EN will be that impressive -- essentally GW1 is dead.. all of Anet's efforts are on GW2...

GW:EN is basically one big advertisement for getting GW2 (for example, the hall of monuments).

Well then, I guess you don't have to buy it then. That said, ANet has a complete development team still working on GW1, it's far from dead.

Continents, no. Cultures? Most likely will expand. Not of a whole continent, but we are going to be introduced to the Asura and Norn races and more in depth for the Charr. There's plenty of scope foe exploring new cultures.

Just because it's an expansion doesn't mean it'll be short by any means. It just means that it doesn't have a noob zone(IE, ascalon, shing jea, istan). You just cut the crap and jump right into the real story.

And seriously, why would we need new professions? I have trouble thinking of plausible ones myself--And I can't think of a really plausible one on the concept classes forum, really... But some are quite good still.

No, I actually like what they're doing. S'awesome.

I mean, I can't think of even bothering to play as anyone other than my dervish through the story. Seriously.

I think GW:EN will offer some nice stuff. There might be a new UW-like area.

As far as story and plot go I think Nightfall has topped it all off those of you who have completed Factions and Nightfall know what I mean and i don't want to spoil anything for people who haven't. As for the expansion idea of GW:EotN i like it. As it has been set in Tyria it will bring new life to the long and forgotten Prophecies chapter. The way I see it its just a massive massive prophecies update. And I for one am looking forward to it as it will give us some idea as to what to expect in GW2.
